KAST Announces Leadership Transition

We are writing to inform you of an important leadership transition within the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology (KAST).

Our current Executive Director (ED), Melanie Fontaine, will be transitioning to an Operations role in order to focus on starting a family. We wholeheartedly support Melanie’s decision and look forward to the impact she will create in her new role.

KAST has been fortunate to have had Melanie lead the organization for the last 2 years. Thanks to her passion, care and leadership, KAST launched the region’s first Kootenay Investment Challenge and our first Investor Network, ramped up participation in the Venture Accelerator Program and relaunched youth programming and entrepreneurship training. We have grown into a thriving organization filled with staff, students, volunteers, contractors, facilitators and partners running year-round programming. We are proud of what Melanie has accomplished and are excited to share in her joy as she plans for a new chapter in her life.

Thomas Archer will be transitioning into the ED role over the next few weeks. He brings a wealth of experience and deep commitment to our organization’s mission. Thomas has an impressive track record in leading similar ‘Not for Profit’ organizations and also brings a history of successful entrepreneurship to the role. We are confident that Thomas will lead forward with vision, passion, and expertise and will build on our collaborative relationships with partners, funders and community.

We greatly appreciate your ongoing support and trust in our organization. Over the coming weeks Thomas will be moving into the role and both Melanie and Thomas are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continuation of the excellent work we are doing.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this transition, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We value your feedback and are committed to addressing any inquiries.

Warm regards,

Lorri Fehr
