One of the reasons the Kootenay Contraption Contest exists is because we know that some of the best ideas come from the youth in our region. We set out to find prizes for the 2020 contest that are just as inspiring as the contraptions they will enter! A BIG thank you to our event sponsor, Fortis BC , and to our prize sponsors:
Grand Prize Sponsor Phoenix Computers + Technology
Educator’s Edition Sponsor SMRT1 Technologies
Classroom Prize Partner I/O Design & Engineering
Bonus resources provided by Kidder

The Kootenays top stop for computer service and sales CAME THROUGH on this one! Phoenix Computers + Technology has been helping their customers get the most out of technology since 2006. Based in Nelson, B.C., owner Scott Newland was amped by the opportunity to sponsor the Grand Prize and we think the winner is going to love their Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet, Philips bluetooth headset and a Polk Audio waterproof speaker.

The Kootenay Contraption Contest first ever Educator’s Edition winner will be adding four Arduino Uno’s to their classroom so they can power their first creative projects. These boards and modules are the best way to start learning and tinkering with electronics and coding. Thanks to Brad Pommen at SMRT1 Technologies for this cool prize!

We are so excited about the STEAM Kits our friends at I/O Design & Engineering partnered with us for our K-8 classroom winners! They include a Robotic arm, Catapult, Smartphone Microscope, Makey-Makey Go Kits and STEM Lab project idea book!

Shout out to Kidder who kicked in some extra STEM Lab books for our educators. All our classroom kit prizes were ordered from this awesome Canadian-owned company!

There is still plenty of time to enter the 2020 Kootenay Contraption Contest and have a chance at claiming one of these awesome prizes! We can’t wait to see your contraptions.
