What and When do Raptors Eat? KAST presents a touring Birds of Prey exhibit at the region's fall fairs
Join KAST and Raptor's Ridge Birds of Prey at this year's Fall Fairs in Grand Forks, during Golden City Days in Rossland, and at the New Denver Garlic Festival.
Have you ever wondered exactly what a ‘raptor’ is? Or what the difference is between birds and ‘birds of prey’? For an up-close and personal educational experience with these fascinating animals, visit the KAST booth at your local fall fair.
Professional handlers from Raptors Ridge will bring two birds to the West Kootenay for a series of public presentations - demystifying the role that birds of prey play in our environment, as well as offering up cool facts about our feathered friends. Photographs, inquisitive minds and questions are welcome!
The Birds of Prey tour comes to the Grand Forks Fall Fair on September 7, Rossland Golden City Days on September 8 and the New Denver Garlic Festival September 9. The tour is presented by KAST’s Growing, Learning Opportunities with Science (GLOWS) annual educational program designed to make science and technology learning fun, accessible and non-intimidating for Kootenay-Boundary kids and youth.
“Birds of prey and their unique habitat needs are a vital element of the our region’s incredible natural environment, and we’re excited to share the science and stories of these remarkable animals with the thousands of families who attend the region’s fall fairs,” said Erin Handy, KAST program coordinator.
Raptors Ridge Birds of Prey is a unique family business – a professional conservation center providing birds of prey care and habitat, interactive workshops and public educational programs at its Maple Ridge facility, and at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, a premiere Vancouver tourist attraction.
“We aim to promote an exciting educational experience giving an opportunity to learn, develop and acquire a fuller understanding of ecological interaction between humans and Birds of Prey,” explained Raptor’s Ridge co-founder Karen Kamstra. www.raptorsridge.com
