2012 APEGBC Popsicle Bridge Competition a Success!
APEGBC's annual Popsicle Bridge Building Competition is always a hit, and this year was no exception. The contest took place at the Community Science Celebration in Castlegar on April 14th, proudly supported by KAST.
In the weeks leading up to the contest, APEGBC member engineers gave bridges & structures presentations to Grade 3 classes across the West Kootenay and Boundary. Over 150 students were lucky enough to start off on their bridges with some professional inspiration.
Over 110 bridge builders had their structures (and nerves!) tested to their limits by professional engineers. Armed with only 100 popsicle sticks and a tube of glue, contestants created 50cm long bridges that were weight tested to destruction. Congratulations to the winners!
