Congrats West Kootenay Regional Science Fair Winners!

This year’s West Kootenay Regional Science Fair happened on Saturday April 13, 2013 at Stanley Humphries Secondary in Castlegar. Grades 1 to 12 discovered their own triumphs through hard work, determination, intuition and a lot of digging. Then through participation in the fair, managed to show off their brilliance - and wow was it bright!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2013 U19 Film Fest, April 27th at the Royal Theatre in Trail.

There were seven categories, with top prizes of $200 for People’s Choice and the Judge’s Choice. The other five category winners took home $150.

Rocking it out at the Kootenay Rock and Gem Show!

Welcome all geologists, gemologists and rock/gem/jewel/geode lovers! On the 8th & 9th of June, the Kootenay Rock and Gem show will proudly hold their event at the Castlegar Complex. Over those two days there will be many family and children activities, including vendors bringing in a large variety of fossils, gems, crystals, jewelry and gold dredging equipment.

Homeschoolers Have Their Eyes on the Skies

On April 17, 2013 the Kootenay Homeschoolers and families were treated to an awesome viewing of the sun and stars near Beaver Creek. With approximately 20 – 30 kids in attendance, many agree that it was an insightful experience in a field that there is so little known about.

Crawford Bay School goes Batty for Bats

Did you know that merely three species of bats actually drink blood, but most prefer insects, fruit, pollen and even fish? As the only known flying mammal in the world, the bat is one of earth’s amazing creatures – and perhaps one of the more misunderstood ones. At Crawford Bay School, the students received a rare chance to learn about these bizarre animals.

2012 Kootenay Contraption Contest sets record for entries – solves looming energy crisis: Imagination has no limits, and Kootenay kids have proven it.

How will we use less energy in the year 2050? That answer just became a little clearer courtesy the hopes, dreams, imagination and creativity of 143 Kootenay Boundary students.
