as we know it is being shaped by science and technology. From curing
disease, combating hunger, reducing pollution, furthering space travel,
creating technological innovations or even developing the next great
video game science and technology is literally everywhere. For the next
generation of employees , entrepreneurs and future world leaders from
across the country, around the world and right here in our own Kootenay
backyard opportunities through Science, Technology, Engineering and math
(STEM) are expanding exponentially.
To meet the growing need in
this sector KAST has developed a new event to inspire generation Y into
pursuing post secondary education in the STEM sector and to answer the
question “Why Tech?”
Through KAST’s commitment to our region’s
economies of tomorrow YTECH has been developed to help local students
see that science , technology engineering , math and innovation is the
key towards a successful and rewarding career.
Ytech aims to
inspire youth by bringing them face to face with professionals from a
wide variety of disciplines, providing them opportunities to interact
with positive role models in the local tech sector. Through interactive
workshops, panel discussions, and real life laboratory experiences at
Selkirk College Ytech will immerse grade eight to twelve students in
positive environment of education and self learning. Through meeting and
greeting local successful professionals in the tech sector Ytech will
inspire our region’s youth to explore post secondary education in the
STEM fields and provide compelling reasons why tech is a great choice
for GenY.
