Drop Designs BCIC BCISI Summer Student Back in the summer of 2014, KAST successfully delivered the pilot “BC Innovator Skills Initiative” (BCISI) program, providing $50,000 in skills, training and practical experience to seven post-secondary students. Successfully implemented again this summer, the program has expanded its funding to extend into the fall term to continue to offer exceptional students and Columbia Basin businesses this mutually beneficial opportunity. This fall, businesses are able to either extend with an existing student or hire a new candidate for the fall/winter term.  These talented young people enthusiastically embrace the unique opportunity of in-region experience, developing business and technical skills, enjoying exposure to career opportunities and valuable on-the-ground practical  experience.  Businesses benefit from an eager, energetic and skilled young person ready to learn and contribute. It's a  diverse group of of Basin companies taking advantage of the program.  Several lucky and talented young professionals experienced the world of particle accelerator component design, LED electronic engineering and manufacture, industrial technology adoption and fabrication, geospatial applications to commercial and economic development, and forestry technology application and management, and more. The Program: KAST has up to $7,500 to help your company hire a business or technical student NOW! These funds must be matched by your company either in cash , or in kind (or a blend). What is an “in kind” contribution? Examples of in-kind contributions may include (but are not limited to): training, shares in company, apprenticeship opportunities, leveraging of co-op funding or other – to be discussed with KAST upon application. Students must be currently enrolled as a BC post-secondary student and be hired for a minimum of 20 hours per week for business or technical purposes (i.e. not admin). Their employment must be completed by March 31st, 2016. Companies must be based in the East/West Kootenay or Boundary region of BC, and the student work must be undertaken in BC.
